The Timber Flute Festival is for musicians wanting to explore the history, practice, and creation of wooden flutes. A series of classes, ensemble coachings and evening events will be offered to increase the skill of the experienced player and provide an introduction for the beginner. The festival will focus on several arts associated with wooden flutes: the one-keyed flute (Baroque/Classical Eras) to the eight-keyed flute (Late Classical/Romantic) and Irish traditional music. Class schedules will be arranged so that festival participants can move from one tradition to the other. Players already experienced in one tradition are encouraged to try the other.

Come join us next June for a week of music instruction by world class players from these great traditions, dance to their music at our nightly contras, hear them in concert, and -- if you're so inclined -- jam with them or fellow tunes-aficionados into the wee hours. Please join us for an evening of old-time music from the repertoire of fiddler Joe Dawson. This is traditional music from Monroe and Brown Counties, Indiana, played by Grey on fiddle, Cindy on guitar and Mark on banjo. We learned all of the music from Joe, born in 1928 in Bedford, Indiana. Joe started fiddling at the age of ten at his grandfather's knee. The music is beautiful, lyrical and mostly crooked, some tunes heard nowhere else, and settings of well-known tunes that are unique to this area.
No cover charge, donations appreciated, all ages welcome.
